I Keep Forgetting to Enjoy the Moment
It’s a beautiful 74 degrees here in sunny south Florida. The humidity and dew point are perfect!
This morning, Nikki (my daughter) and I grabbed a coffee and headed to Biscayne National Park. I love the views and the peacefulness.
At the park, the pungent odor of fresh herbicide wafted through the air. With my Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), herbicides and pesticides are #1 on my list of things to avoid… can you say anaphylaxis!? It’s safety first, coffee second. So out of the park we go!
At another park within the city, we sipped coffee and chatted a while before Nikki needed to get back home.
There was construction on the way back to my hotel… so I turned right instead of my usual left.
I thought I knew where I was going but, when I ended up inside an unknown-to-me apartment complex, I realized I wasn’t as crafty as I thought.
After a quick turn around at the mailboxes, I hightailed it outta there, heading back in the direction I came from.
I had no idea where I was. I could have used the GPS on my phone but that’s too easy. Instead, I just drove until something looked familiar - a common practice that works for me most of the time 🙄

I found myself driving through residential areas that were unfamiliar to me. As I drove, with the wind blowing my hair to-and-fro, I thought to myself “Why am I not enjoying the ride?”
Somehow I get so focused on the destination that I forget there’s a whole part of the journey I’m missing out on. And that’s the part where calm, peace, and joy reside.
Needless to say, I slowed down - driving-wise and mental-wise - and focused on the ride rather than the destination. It was sooooooo nice 💕
Why do I forget to enjoy the journey? Is it just me, or do you have this problem too?
