I'm Always on the Outside Looking In - And the View is Great!
Do you ever feel like you're on the outside looking in?
I do. But it's become a way of life.
In my 6 decades on planet Earth, I've never been in the popular group but I've learned that being different is not a curse.
I was born to be different. Period.
Growing up, I took being unpopular way too personally. I felt like I was always the proverbial odd-one out... being chosen last to be on a team, standing alone when asked to separate into groups, and being shunned simply because I was different.
This made me sad and many tears were shed. At that age, my perception was too narrow to see there was more to life than being popular. I also didn't understand that other peoples actions had nothing to do with me and everything to do with themselves.
As I matured into adulthood, I realized popularity is not a true measure of success and societal status has absolutely nothing to do with happiness.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped comparing myself to others and quit taking things so personally. That's when my happiness meter skyrocketed.
Here's the thing, being on the outside looking in gives me a perspective that many never get to experience.
I may be on my own quirky little island with only a handful of visitors... but I'm happy here.
