Trying to Enjoy a Sunny Autumn Day - Despite the Asian Beetles

The weather here in northwestern Illinois is perfect! But, this afternoon, I’m enjoying it from inside the camper van.

The campground is surrounded by corn and soybeans fields.

The area Farmers have been harvesting crops for a couple weeks now and Asian Beetles have been coming out in droves!

Apparently the beetles live in the fields. When the fields are picked, the beetles find other accommodations.

Sadly, those accommodations are often my van.

They are crawling on the sunny side of the van as I write. I can also see them flying around the campsite. If I were to open the doors to go outside right now… they would swarm in.

Enough of them find their way in without my opening the door and inviting them in!

I do my outside activities in the morning.

The nightly temps are dipping into the low 50’s. The beetles don’t seem to like it that cool.

I get my outside stuff done in the morning before the Lady Bug imposters warm up and become active.

I’ve tried many remedies to deter the Asian beetles.

I have to use homemade concoctions but nothing seems to work 100% at keeping them out.

With my Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), pesticides or anything similar are an absolute NO! My worst MCS reaction was anaphylaxis - caused by pesticide.

I may as well benefit from capturing the beetles.

If there’s any consolation to having these stinky critters in the van it’s that I get a different form of exercise.

Every time I see one I grab the ziplock baggie I’ve been accumulating them in, hold my stomach muscles in, stand up with purpose, march over, and swiftly capture the blankety-blank thing.

Whether this is actually exercise or not… a gal’s gotta have her fun! 😉
