Making My Own Birthday Celebration
Iām sitting here looking at the date and my brain is doing flip-flops trying to grasp that tomorrow is my 62nd birthday.
I canāt believe Iāve roamed this earth for more than 6 decades!
Iāll get a few āHappy Birthdaysā via social media, texts, or phone calls. I enjoy hearing from people but, unless I take matters into my own hands, that will be the extent of it.
Gone are the days of birthday get-togethers with family.
Thru the years, my parents would host a September birthdays party for myself, my brother, and his son (our birthdays are several days apart). Other family members joined in, it was always a fun time with a house full of family.
As time went on, many passed away, drifted apart, moved to a different state, or became physically unable to attend.
My daughter has always done special things for my birthday.
When she was growing up, it was just her and I. She was a crafty kid and always good at finding ways to surprise me.
Now, she lives in southeast Florida and Iām at a campground in northwest Illinois. I live in my cozy little home on wheels.
Iām thankful I can celebrate my birthday via modern technology but I need to do something special for myself - even if itās minor!
My totally-flexible-plan-because-Iām-not-a-planner plan for my birthday isā¦
Wake up. This is important! If this doesnāt happen, my entire plan is botched.
After a leisurely shower at the campground bathhouse, Iāll head to town and get my free Starbucks coffee - unless I change my mind and go to my favorite local coffee shop. It wonāt be free, but itās tastier, and Iām worth it š
Iām also getting something from the bakery, darn it! I havenāt had cake or anything similar on my birthday in years.
Iāll head to a local park to enjoy my coffee and sugar-filled treats for breakfast.
At some point, Iāll grab lunch from somewhere because Iām not cooking anything on my birthday.
Iāve thought about what else I can do thatās specialā¦
The thing is, I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS). Going to public places is often too toxic for me - which is why I mostly do drive-thru and curbside pickup.
I could go for a drive in the countryside or a place I havenāt been in a while. Or, I could go back to my campsite and rent a movie. Or, I could wing it like I usually do and figure something else out. Or, all of the above!
MCS may limit things I can do but it doesnāt dictate my fun. I just have to go about it differently than a normal person would.
Thanks for stopping by,
Connie š
