Leaving Reed Bingham State Park - Preparing for Atlanta

I’m at a small campground about an hour south of Atlanta after spending Easter weekend at Reed Bingham State Park in Adel, Georgia - one of my favorite Georgia State Parks.

The weekend weather at Reed Bingham was pretty warm but the humidity was so low there were high fire danger alerts.

The gnats were extra annoying…

At my campsite, while plugging in, filling my water tank, and dumping my portable gray and black tanks, I was swarmed by gnats. I took a shower! Why are they after me?!?

Across the road, my neighbor is fighting the gnats too.

To avoid sucking them up thru my mouth and nose like a gnat vacuum cleaner, I had to choreograph my moves - swat and swoosh the gnats away, take a deep gnat-free breath, hold my breath while I finish the task at hand, and repeat until each task was done.

During my time at Reed Bingham…

I didn’t go outside much. This isn’t a problem for me as I enjoy times of solitude.

Along with the annoying gnats, as the day started heating up, the big ole bumblebees came out. They were larger than the bumblebees I grew up with in northern Illinois but nothing in comparison to the gargantuan bumblebees I encountered in the Florida Everglades 🐝

They loved buzzing around the picnic table and bonkin’ into the tinted side window of the van. They must think the tinted windows are an entrance to an awesome cave where they can set up house. They’re right but it’s my awesome little cave, not theirs.

Reed Bingham is a day behind me now…

As a general rule (meaning I say it but don’t always follow it), I don’t travel on weekends or holidays.

I like to chill and head out on Monday or the day after a holiday when people are usually back at work or home recuperating from the festivities.

Tomorrow is Atlanta day…

I used to go hours out of my way to avoid anything remotely close to Atlanta, Georgia. But nowadays, I just go with the flow.

I take the Atlanta bypass - which can still be busy but not as confusing as all the loop-de-loops in Atlanta. I just try to time it so I’m there after 10am (which is when rush hour is supposed to be over).

If I take the wrong exit and end up in downtown Atlanta, it’s simply part of the adventure. One that may summon periods of white-knuckle driving followed by deep-nerve-calming-breaths, but still an adventure.

Many moons ago…

In the midst of one of many chaotic life changes, I decided to make Life the adventure.

Seeing (most) everything as an adventure changed my perspective on how I view my experiences.

So, Atlanta, here I come… one way or the other!
