An Unusually Peaceful Weekend Morning at the Campground

It’s a quiet, peaceful, 45 degree morning at the usually busy campground.

After a chaotic post-tornado week, the peace is almost spooky.

This place is usually jam packed on weekends…

People come to camp in their campers, tents, or a cabin. There’s always weekend activities here for the whole family.

Many of the weekenders are locals but some come from out of town and others are travelers just passing thru.

My guess on why it’s a quieter weekend…

There’s major road construction at the entrance to the campground. They are making an entirely new road and the entrance to the campground can be a little tricky to navigate.

I went to Auntie M’s yesterday morning. Then, I went to Freeport to run some errands. When I got back to the campground, the entrance was in a whole different place.

There’s also the tornado that happened 8 days ago. The small town of Leapin’ Lena has done a lot of clean-up work in the past week. But I’ve seen a few travel trailers/RVs that are pretty beat up - one laying on its side. There are also those who were displaced from their homes.

I’ve never seen this campground so light on weekends. It’s possible the road construction and tornado aftermath play a part in it.

Parting thoughts…

I suppose it’s time to admit I’m exhausted. Dealing with Auntie M, in general, can be exhausting. It just comes with the territory of life with a loved one who has dementia.

But adding tornado aftermath to the mix adds a whole new level of fatigue. The fatigue is more mental than physical, though.

I hadn’t realized how exhausted I was until the stillness of the morning sunk in. I’ve been running on adrenaline this week trying to get everything done. Now that the adrenaline is fading, the fatigue reveals itself.

I’m looking forward to a peaceful, relaxing weekend.

Then again, I said that last weekend too 😐
